We don't adopt on a first-come, first-served basis.
We adopt to the most suitable home for each animal.

Hoof & Hound Adoption Policy

At Hoof & Hound, our priority is finding safe, loving and permanent homes for the animals in our care.

Our Adoption Process

1. Application

Complete our online adoption application form. Applications are reviewed to ensure the animal is a suitable match for your home and lifestyle.

2. Meet & Greet
Suitable applicants will be invited to meet the animal. We may conduct reference, rental or veterinary checks where required.

3. Adoption Agreement & Trial

If your application is approved, adopters are required to:

  • Sign the Adoption Agreement.

  • Pay the adoption fee.

  • Commence a two-week trial period.

  • During the trial period, ownership of the animal remains with Hoof & Hound.

Where a registered veterinarian recommends delaying desexing due to the dog's age, breed or stage of development, the adopter will also be required to sign Northern Rivers Hoof & Hound's Delayed Desexing Agreement.

4. Final Adoption
Following a successful two-week trial, the adoption will be confirmed and the microchip ownership transferred into the adopter's name.

All dogs entering the care of Northern Rivers Hoof & Hound will be managed in accordance with the Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW) and all applicable legal requirements. As the NSW Pet Registry does not currently provide a suitable organisational ownership account for Northern Rivers Hoof & Hound, dogs may be temporarily registered in the name of an authorised representative of the organisation for administrative purposes. Upon adoption, ownership will be transferred to the adopter through the NSW Pet Registry in accordance with NSW legislation.

Important Information:

  • Hoof & Hound reserves the right to decline any application.

  • The welfare of the animal will always be our primary consideration.

  • Adoption fees help fund the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals in our care.

  • If a trial placement is unsuccessful, the animal must be returned to Hoof & Hound.

Thank you for choosing adoption and helping us give rescue animals a second chance.
